Ingredients

BAZELLA INGREDIENTS

1lb lean beef stew
2lb bag of frozen green peas & carrots
1lb bag of frozen peas
6 cups water
2-3 tbsp garlic paste
1 can tomato paste
Baharat spice mix (see below)

BAHARAT SPICE MIX

1/2 tsp ground all spice
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 ground coriander
1/4 ground nutmeg

A few notes about the ingredients above:

– You want the ratio of peas to be more then carrots.
– The amount of water you use is preferential. You can add more or less. It all depends on the consistency you prefer your stew / sauce to be to the ratio of the beef, carrots and peas.
– I love garlic so I use a lot. Add or omit the amount you like to your taste.
– I like my tomato sauce / stew to be thick and hearty so I add a lot of tomato paste. How thick your sauce will be also depends on how much water you use.

VERMICELLI RICE INGREDIENTS

2 cups basmati rice
1/2 cup vermicelli
3 cups boiling water
Salt to taste
4 tbsp oil

Instructions

BAZELLA INSTRUCTIONS

Bring water to a boil. Add garlic paste and beef stew. Cook beef on medium heat for about 30 minutes until beef is tender. Add tomato paste. Add peas and carrots. Add spices and simmer uncovered with no lid for another 30 – 45 minutes until sauce thickens and your vegetables are soft and cooked.

VERMICELLI RICE INSTRUCTIONS

Wash the basmati rice in water until the water turns from milky to clear. Soak the rice for 45 minutes or so before cooking. Discard the water the rice was soaking in and set the rinsed basmati rice aside until you are ready to use it.

Heat your oil in a medium sized pot. When the oil is hot, add your vermicelli and stir until golden. The vermicelli cooks pretty fast and shouldn’t take longer than a couple minutes. Add the basmati rice, hot water, and salt. Cover pot with a kitchen towel and lid and then the heat to low. Let your rice cook on low for 15 minutes. Turn the heat off and let the rice rest for another 10-15 minutes before serving.
