    “Welcome TuTu my party!”

    September 20, 2018

When I think about what comprises the signature look of Pretty Please Design {Pretty Please Baby}, three things consistently come together to create the perfect harmony of what I find pretty. The first is flowers – fresh and faux. Blooms are an essential part of my designs, and I spend a lot of time curating my collection of faux flowers to ensure I always have the highest quality in color and longevity. The second signature component is unique or vintage pieces. As a designer that values sentiment more than spending, I am constantly on the lookout for timeless pieces that can be a permanent part of my repertoire instead of buying new or disposable items for every event. I’m inspired by vintage and classic brands and have always had an eye for distinctive items. Lastly, my designs utilize a carefully curated color palette of playful pastels. I find pastels to be warm and luring, the perfect expression of the dreamy, peaceful place we want our babies to hold in our hearts and homes.

The do-it-yourself aspect of my work is gratifying on so many levels. There is the obvious cost effectiveness which allows me to utilize every dollar of an event budget, but even more important is that I’ve given my project or in this case my child, an aesthetic that can’t be purchased elsewhere. A Pretty Please Design {Pretty Please Baby} party, will always include something that was unique to the way I envisioned the event, either in how it reflects the guest of honor, or in how it creates the particular atmosphere I want the guests to experience. For this styled party, I prettified the floral ballerina slipper piece we hung against the floral wall.

I also enjoy repurposing items that I already have. It’s almost like the next level of doing-it-yourself. Not only are you designing and creating everything yourself, you’re utilizing items you already own, without making additional purchases. Repurposing certainly requires an extra measure of thought and creativity, but once you’ve done it a few times, you begin to see potential in everything! An added benefit of repurposing is that certain items in my collection have begun to hold sentimental value which only makes my work more meaningful. There’s a common misconception that to make an event or celebration special, you have to go over-the top with exorbitant décor and lavish spending, but there’s nothing pretty about being wasteful, and no one enjoys an event that didn’t fall within their budget. For this shoot in particular, I reused a lot of the same items from my daughter’s 2nd and 3rd birthday celebrations, as well as pieces that are part of my home décor. I hope my own journey in building Pretty Please Design {Pretty Please Baby}, will inspire others to take personal pride in perfecting their own pretty, in their own way.

Hi Katylee! I made the ballerina slippers with flowers on it. I rented the table linen from Wildflower Linen. The floral wall is also rented. It’s from Wonderwall OC.
